This piece offers a double interpretation, a negative one and a positive one, depending on how we want to interpret it.
The negative interpretation, which could be more objective, the clock mechanism in the steel plank is a symbol of our existence in this society, in which we all are just a part of an immense machinery that sometimes crushes and nullifies us. The human places their piece; they submerge in that mechanism, a cog assembly in which they inevitably take part.
In a more positive interpretation, the character grabs his piece, his part, his own existence to go out of this massive, asphyxiating machinery that is our world and tries to be himself.
